
Dr. Groome is a molecular neuroscientist who investigates ion channels in nerves and muscle fibers. His lab works to understand the structural and functional relationship which allows ion channels to generate electrical signaling.

I am a first-generation student majoring in Microbiology and minoring in chemistry. I plan on attending graduate school to get my PhD in immunology so I can pursue my own research and hopefully discover cures for many immunological diseases. In my spare time, I love playing board games with my friends, being outdoors, eating lots of food, and collecting succulents.

My name is Katelyn Baird, and I just graduated from Emmett High School. In the fall, I will attend Idaho State University, majoring in Nursing. Once I have my Nursing degree, I hope to obtain a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration. Aside from school, I enjoy reading, puzzles, and participating in clubs.

I am a senior at ISU working towards a BS in Biomedical Sciences. This summer, I will be working in Dr. Jack Rose’s reproductive endocrinology laboratory. I am excited about the skills and knowledge that I will gain from this INBRE fellowship.

I am currently studying biology, and I'm applying to medical school in June. I love playing any sport out there when I'm not in the lab from basketball to snowboarding, wakeboarding, etc.

I am majoring in microbiology with minors in geographic information systems and chemistry. In the future, I would love to research molecular pathways or work as an epidemiologist. I enjoy gardening, playing piano, spending time with friends and family, and googling random questions that come up throughout the day.

Currently, I am a sophomore majoring in Biochemistry. While my initial goal, when I began college was to pursue a career in medicine, my recent exposure to research has caused me to consider a career in science. I have always considered myself a curious individual, and in that respect, I feel as though a career as a researcher would suit me well. In my free time, I enjoy hiking and camping, as well as playing board games and spending time with my friends and family.

I am completing a B.S. in Human Biology at BYU-Idaho. I aspire to matriculate into medical school and practice as a physician. Aside from my educational endeavors, I am currently married and have two beautiful young children. I love playing with them and doing countless family activities such as going to the park and family trips.

I am currently a Pre-Med and Exercise Science student at Idaho State University. I enjoy the outdoors and traveling, primarily in South America. I used to ski competitively and played baseball for 16 years. Fun fact about me is I'm teaching myself on the side to be a proficient chef for every major cultural group in the world.

I am currently pursuing my B.S. in Biochemistry, and I hope to go on to medical school afterward. I have type one diabetes, so I want to become a Pediatric Endocrinologist to help kids that also have diabetes. This summer, I hope to learn new techniques in the lab and how to overcome the obstacles that are going to arise when doing research. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, watching Jeopardy!, and playing the piccolo in the Bengal Marching and Pep Bands.

Hi! My name is Cam, and I am a senior, studying biology with a biomedical concentration. My goal is to pursue a Ph.D. after graduation in hopes of one day being able to have a career in research. When I am not working in an academic setting, I am heavily involved on campus as an ISU Bengal; this year, I will have the opportunity to serve our students as the ASISU President. In my spare time, I enjoy backpacking, fly fishing, motorcycles, and photography. Go Bengals!

I’m Makenzie, and I am going to be in my third year of being a biology major with a focus on biomedical sciences with a minor in psychology! I study developmental behavioral neuroscience, and I have been in Dr. Brumley’s lab for almost a year now. I love to cook and go hiking. If I’m not at school or work, you will catch me outside doing something!

I am a Biochemistry major, and I plan to obtain a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. My goal is to research extremophilic proteins or gene regulation pathways. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, drawing, painting, and sculpting.

My name is Adriene Pavek. I am from Pocatello, Idaho, and I am majoring in Biology at Idaho State University. At ISU, I play on the women's tennis team, being in the Honors Program, and hold leadership positions in three student clubs. My name is Reiker Ricks. I was raised on a potato farm in the Rexburg, Idaho area where I had the opportunity to work alongside my father and brothers. (Martin Lab) My major is Biology with concentration in Biomedical Science. I have a strong interest in being a biomedical researcher. My ultimate goal is to be able to do research on cures for some of the diseases that scourge the world. I feel that a good research on genetics, immunology, and various clinical procedures combined could address cures to the world threatening diseases. My life would be mundane without music, movies and Soccer.

(Groome Lab) I will be completing a B.S. in Medical Microbiology, a B.A. in French, and an A.S. in Chemistry. My ultimate goal is to conduct biomedical research in a French-speaking country with a poorly established health care system in order to increase the understanding of the needs of those communities within the health care field. I have a wide variety of interests, including music performance with the Cello and Viola, the study of French linguistics and history, and Nordic skiing.

(Austin Lab) I am a sophomore majoring in Medical Laboratory Science. I hope to go on to medical school to study pulmonology. Outside of the classroom I represent ISU as a student ambassador and a senator for the Division of Health Sciences. In my free time I fly fish, backpack, rock climb, and take photos.

(Brumley Lab) I am double majoring in microbiology and psychology. I want to enter a joint MD–PhD program. I aspire to complete a PhD in behavioral neuroscience and a residency in psychiatry. Other than anything and everything microbiology and psychology related, my interests include reading, writing and skiing. I started as a research assistant in Dr. Brumley’s lab in the fall of 2017 and I have loved everything about it. I am excited to work on an independent project this summer!

(Rose Lab) I consider myself a relative newcomer to research and academia, having until several months ago been pursuing pharmacy as a career. Leaving pharmacy to work with Dr. Rose has so far been one of the greatest decisions I have ever made in my life, as I find the work extremely satisfying and enriching. I now fully intend to continue my education to study reproductive and developmental endocrinology. Besides my research, my main interests are playing tennis and eating good food.

(Evilia Lab) I am currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in biochemistry. I plan on attending graduate school to obtain my PhD and aim to go into research surrounding genome sciences. I hope to at some point be involved in cancer research and genetic therapy. Outside of school, I love dancing, drawing, and paddleboarding with my dogs. I am excited to be a part of the INBRE program and take advantage of this opportunity to develop myself as a scientist.

(Pak Lab) I am currently a junior at Idaho State University. I’m majoring in Biology with a concentration in Biomedical Science and minoring in Microbiology. I plan on continuing my education in graduate school. In my spare time I enjoy hanging with friends and family as well as watching Netflix.

(Pak Lab) I am a senior pursuing a B.S. in chemistry. When not tucked away in a laboratory doing research, one might find me wandering campus, frequently climbing trees and doing handstands. In my spare time I whitewater kayak, climb up large rocks, write prose and poetry about my travels in the natural world, reads history books, plants shrubberies (and other green things), and runs around the hills of Pocatello.

(Martin Lab) My major is biology with a biomedical concentration. I plan on pursuing a doctor’s degree in optometry because I am fascinated with the medical field and more specifically, the human eye. In my free time, I like to paint, read, play the guitar, play soccer, or even go on a run. I enjoy going on a walk or hike to simply contemplate on nature, but I also appreciate being a part of a loud and lively get-together with family and friends.

(Brumely Lab) I am in my third year as a psychology major at ISU. I am interested in neuroscience and I hope to continue my education in experimental psychology after I graduate next semester. I love rock climbing, reading (mostly Harry Potter), hiking, and anything involving animals, especially my cats. I have recently discovered my love for research and I plan to continue studying and learning for as long as I can.

(Pilarski Lab) Currently I am working towards my B.S. in biology and plan to earn my Ph.D. in neuroscience. It is my goal to become a neuroscience researcher. When I get a chance, I like to go hiking, ready mystery novels, medical journals, and textbooks, play the piano, practice martial arts, play with my nieces and nephews, and take my cat for a walk.

(Barrott Lab) I am a student studying Human Biology and BYU-Idaho. I hope is to advance into the medical field by advancing into medical school next year. With the spare time I do have, I enjoy being with my wife. We enjoy doing a lot of things together, including riding bikes, hiking, camping, playing board games, and watching our favorite television shows. My greatest interest in school so far has been the study of pathophysiology.

(Groome Lab) I was born and raised here in Pocatello. I love the outdoors and try to spend as much as my time hunting, fishing, backpacking, and doing other activities that get me into the wild. My major is Biology with a concentration in biomedical sciences. I will be graduating this coming December, and I am very excited for this coming summer!

(Groome Lab) I am working towards a B.S. in Health Science with a concentration in Occupational Therapy. I plan to pursue a MD/PhD degree which combines two things I love most: Medicine and Research. I am also an avid reader and writer of fanfiction.

(Aubuchon-Endsley Lab) I am a senior at ISU majoring in biology with a biomedical science concentration and minoring in psychology. I am currently in the process of applying to medical schools. When I'm not at work or school, I enjoy playing golf and enjoying the outdoors.

(Sheridan Lab) I am majoring in Microbiology. I love to be out doors spending time with my family, I enjoy backpacking, hiking, and camping. When I graduate I would like to pursue a masters degree in Microbiology, studying Bacteriophage.

(Rodnick Lab) I am a country girl from North Idaho. I love to read, crochet, go camping, and being with my family. I have my A.S. from NIC in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. I am working to obtain my B.S. major/minor in chemistry and mathematics at ISU.

(Groome Lab) I am a Microbiology student who is interested in educating the future generations of Idaho students. I like reading Science fiction novels and playing soccer. I love the outdoors; hiking and swimming are my favorite summer activities.

(Sheridan Lab) I am a MLS major with high interest in molecular biology and microbiology. I hope to one day work among these fields in a research setting. When I am not in the lab, I spend my spare time in the forest with my fiancée and dog.

(Brumley Lab) I’m currently interested in the experimental aspect of Psychology. I’m split between a lifelong goal of medicine and a new interest in research. I’m hoping my experiences in INBRE will give me more of a base to make a future decision.

(Brumley Lab) Besides taking almost every science class my high school offered, I was able to participate in NASA’s Idaho Science and Aerospace Scholars Program. I just completed a Pharmacy Technician course, and I am looking forward to a career based in science.

(Pilarski Lab) I graduated from Emmett High School. Throughout high school, I got involved in multiple clubs and my favorite was the Biology club. I have always loved science and gaining knowledge and that is one of the reasons why I applied to the INBRE program.

(Pilarski Lab) When I’m not researching, I love to go on long road trips with my beautiful wife, and I love whitewater kayaking, fishing and watching the occasional episode of Psych.

(Pak Lab) I am a Montana native and a junior majoring in chemistry. I have been involved in research for the last two years under Dr. Joshua Pak. Outside of the lab, I am an avid outdoorsman. I especially enjoy golfing, running and camping.

(Rodnick Lab) I am an undergraduate student at Idaho State University pursuing a degree in Biochemistry. I plan to go on to graduate school and study biomedical engineering. I enjoy playing the flute, singing, reading, hiking, and studying chemistry.

(Rose Lab) I’m a Human Biology major, Chemistry minor at BYU-Idaho. I love Physiology and learning how life works down to the details. I have plans of attending medical school after graduation and hopefully applying my love of physiology and learning to improving public health.
