A goal of the Idaho INBRE Program is to provide research opportunities to Idaho undergraduate students and serve as a pipeline for these students to continue in health research careers. A broad base of students with interest, enthusiasm, and knowledge in science is a necessary first step to develop the next generation of biomedical researchers.

The Idaho INBRE Program is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences Institutional Development Award (IDeA). Dr. James Groome is the ISU INBRE Program Director and can be reached at groojame@isu.edu.

In 2014, the program received a $16.3 million five-year renewal grant, which is administered by the University of Idaho (UI). This INBRE renewal brings about $1 million to ISU. The new INBRE funding will:

  • support 10-15 undergrads per summer as research fellows

  • support two to three graduate doctoral students per year

  • provide cutting-edge biomedical research equipment for faculty research and student training

  • provide fund seed and start-up grants for faculty
