Just Keep Swimming

INBRE is such an amazing opportunity and I am so incredibly grateful to be involved in it this summer. It’s a chance to apply the skills and knowledge we have and to learn new techniques and procedures. It provides a wonderful socializing and networking between fellows, professors, and graduate students. This interaction between peers and supervisors allow for previous experiences and advice to be shared and the INBRE fellows are given a glimpse into what graduate school is like.

Everyone in Dr. Thomas’s research lab has been working diligently for weeks to prepare for our zebrafish embryos that are due to arrive today! I am so grateful to be working with such dedicated and intelligent lab mates, and they are the perfect combination of hard-working and humorous, which is perfect for long days in the lab. Verona Nicolae, Dr. Thomas’s graduate student, and I have been working together this last week to finalize procedures and finish calculating our drug concentrations for our treatment of the zebrafish.

There are so many things I am so excited for this summer. I am most ecstatic to be working on a living animal model because I never worked in a lab caring for and observing animals. Currently in Dr. Michael Thomas’s zebrafish lab, our zebra fish have arrived and every embryo has hatched into larvae! I am so trilled!
