Started from the Bottom, Now We’re Here!

I started from zero and made it all the way through the summer to be able to present my project. It was a challenge and I am so happy that I had the opportunity. I went from knowing nothing about my respective project, to having so much pride in the poster I created. I had so much fun during the experimental process learning how to use the Two-electrode voltage technique rig. I was able to see improvement in my laboratory skills throughout this 10 week internship. I was able to learn so much from my faculty mentor that I know will make me a better scientist in the future. I had so much fun interacting with the graduate students in my mentor’s lab because they had so much knowledge and were so open to helping me when I struggled.

This summer internship helped me so much because I got to learn valuable skills that I can take with me into the future. I am going to take the skills I learned about laboratory procedure and poster presentation to help me succeed in graduate school.

The poster presentation at the INBRE conference was the most nerve-wrecking thing I have ever done; but I had the time of my life. It was so interesting to see all the different work on biomedical research across the state of Idaho. I had such confidence when I was presenting because I had so much pride in the work I had completed over the course of the internship. It was fun talking to faculty and students about my project.

The INBRE program is such a great opportunity for undergraduate research and I am glad that I had the chance to participate. I learned not only about the scientific process but I also got to experience to a small degree what it is like to be a graduate student. The 10 weeks went by so fast but I got to learn a lot, meet so many new people, and gained valuable experience for future graduate school work. I am so thankful for the opportunity that the INBRE summer internship allows students and only wish I had found it sooner.
